St. Pius X Catholic Church was founded in 1954 to fulfill the growing religious needs of the Stickney and Forest View communities. The members were mainly of the Eastern European ethnic background. Today, however, we are a diverse community of Eastern European, Hispanic, Asian, and other ethnic groups.
Taking the call to holiness from the newly canonized St. Pius X (May 1954) whose motto was, ”Restore all things in Christ,” we offer many ministries, activities and opportunities to grow in faith and love of God and service to others.
ST. PIUS X MISSION NARRATIVE
We, the parish family of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Stickney, Illinois, empowered by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, are called to fulfill “Gods plan, which will be complete when the time is right, to bring all of creation together, everything in heaven and on earth, with Christ as head”. Ephesians 1:10. Inspired by St. Pius X, we seek to “Restore All Things In Christ” as we offer the gifts God has bestowed on us of time, talent and treasure as good Stewards of the church “for the good of others in furthering the Kingdom of God”. Luke 12:48 Blessed with God’s mercy and love, we are moved to respond to the needs of our sisters and brothers in our parish family, community and world.
We are a welcoming and diverse community of faith. Through evangelization, we make every effort to grow in our faith as followers of Jesus and become a living witness of God’s love, by our words and actions. We bring “Good News” to all those we encounter, especially those in need and all those who would like the opportunity to grow in their faith.
During difficult and often dismal times, St. Pius X dedicated himself; “to restore all things in Christ” engraved on the cornerstone of our church. The challenges we face today are similar to those faced a century ago. St. Pius X calls each one of us to a life of prayer and Holiness. As Servants and Good Stewards of the church, we pledge to accept a renewed commitment to provide spiritual, educational, and financial resources to carry out our mission.
God sent his only son to show us “the way, the truth and the life”. John 14:6 United with Christ, we will provide opportunities to grow in mind, body, and spirit through the rich traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church, offering faith formation and education to all age groups.
St. Paul states, “It is not enough to know Christ; we must introduce him to others”. We welcome all who wish to join our parish family, as we pray and work together to share God’s love and restore all things in Christ.
